Hi, everyone! I’m Jodie and I REALLY love to craft pretty things – especially crochet!
I love to sew and knit, but my heart belongs to crochet. Ever since I decided to give it a try back in my mid 20’s when I was a stay at home mum and Full time Carer for my Daughter Abbie; who has Down Syndrome and is non verbal Autistic. Over the last several years I’ve gone from teaching myself to crochet in those early years and falling for it hook, line and sinker; to gifting my makes to friends and family, to opening an Etsy shop to sell my handmade items, to developing courses and teaching others to crochet. To finding my love of pattern and kit designing and now I am fortunate to have opened my own craft space and wool shop called Granny Purls here in Chepstow South Wales.
Living in such a beautiful spot of Wales in the historical town of Chepstow on the border of England in the UK; means I’m surrounded by beautiful old Castles, acres upon acres of stunning woodlands, valleys, rivers and breathtaking mountains. All of which are ideal for soaking up inspiration for my patterns and colour combinations for my blanket bundles.
Being part of the craft community is amazing! No matter what kind of craft it is that soothes your soul and gives your heart moments of joy, as crafters, we can all relate to that feeling of pure magic when our efforts, time and skill flourishes and brings others happiness. Whether it’s crochet, knitting, weaving, or sewing, jewellery, art, woodwork, writing or ANYTHING that gives you pleasure. As crafters we have all felt that sense of calling and purpose when creating things. I have been so encouraged by the local community of crafters and makers and inspired from each of their amazing talents I’ve encountered, I felt that there should be a place to welcome and inspire ALL crafers here in Chepstow, and build a community of Makers, from all corners of craft.
I am so excited to open the doors at Granny Purls to work with many of these talented individuals to create a community that is inspirational to others at the beginning and throughout their maker journey.
From crochet and knit patterns, to sewing projects, to reading some of the life I led with Abbie, and how we live with Down Syndrome and non verbal Autism, through the joy and sometimes painful yet relatable and encouraging moments, I am so excited to introduce you to my All for the love of Abbie blog!
Welcome to our Craft Community – a community that I hope can encompass the true heart of making and what it FEELS like to be a Maker. Remember – Whatever’s good for your soul; do more of that.
